April 14th, 2015

Now that statistics support smart phone and tablet usage is surpassing desktop browsing, Google announced it would begin using mobile-responsiveness as a deciding factor in search engine results. “Starting April 21, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results.”

Google has been and continues to be the authority on search engine protocol. In order to provide a great user experience and show the most relevant results, Google routinely launches updates. The updates make a significant impact on the order in which websites are shown on the result pages.

Translated, this change means that regardless of a site’s relevance, Google will penalize websites that are not mobile-optimized during mobile searches. Since 2009, Arik Brooks and his design team have been designing and coding mobile-optimized websites. “All I had to do to see the importance of having a mobile optimized website, was look around. I saw how many people were engaging with their phones, checking flights, checking their bank accounts, ordering online, reading their emails, et cetera. The importance of mobile was obvious.” So much so that responsive, mobile-optimized design is now a standard offering for all websites that SoSimple Interactive develops.

Google’s move to flag mobile-responsiveness as a deciding factor in its mobile search results is forcing companies to embrace newer technology and update their websites. Mobile-optimization used to be a "nice to have," but now with this Google announcement, it is a necessity. SoSimple is a “simple yet custom” way to embrace this change whether you want to transfer your existing design or if you are ready for a new and improved website presence.
